Ceramic Glazing

Ceramic Glazing

Sequoyah Johnson (she/her)

Sequoyah Johnson is the Austin-based ceramicist behind The Coy Collection. Her work is a distinctive mix between modern shapes with childhood iconography, and it’s that nostalgic design sensibility that’s drawn brands like Nike, Free People, West Elm, HGTV and Microsoft to the Coy Collection for collaborations.

After receiving her BFA in Ceramics and Art education, Sequoyah taught k-middle school art for seven years. That playful sensibility translates directly into The Coy Collection, which launched in 2018.

The Coy Collection  offers a variety of ceramic wares that make you feel good - connecting functional artwork to self love and care. Our mission is to empower, inspire, and spark joy in everyday rituals. Each piece serves as a lil reminder that your body + home are worthy of smiles, love, and warmth.

Serving Joy with Ceramics: Ceramic Glazing

Studio Snapshot: We are taking a hands-on approach to unlocking the joy for both our inner child and our today self. We will be playing with clay, as our form of sketching to connect our preliminary ideas to engage with our younger self. We will be breaking down these ideas into simple icons to represent these moments/memories we have unlocked and glazing pottery to visualize the connection between what we needed then and what we need now. At the end of this session, you will be taking home the tangible reminder of the conversation within and the joy you require and you deserve, then and now. You can use these pieces when you need a ‘serving of joy’ in your life.
