Tethered: Quilting, Memory and Mindfulness with Dr. Sharbreon Plummer

Studio Snapshot: In this workshop, participants will create a hand-tied quilt using cloth with personal meaning and significance. Paired with making will be a small workbook to reflect on the connections between creative practice, embodiment and care. Quilting session moodboard can be found here.

What can students expect from this studio session? In addition to leaving with a tangible lap quilt, it’s my hope that participants will leave with a love for a new practice that allows them to recenter themselves and their creative spirit.

Are prior skills necessary for this session and if so what? Basic sewing experience is helpful but not required (ex: sewing a straight line on a sewing machine.)

What do you want students to get out of your workshop? I want everyone to feel relaxed and grounded, returning home with beautiful handmade goods.

How many student slots are available for studio session? 15

Material cost fee for participants?: $30pp in addition to the retreat tuition fees.

What will participants need to bring or do beforehand? Participants will need to gather and source cloth that will be used for the squares in their quilts. I will also offer two options for virtual drop-in sessions before the retreat to offer feedback on their selections and recommendations for what might work best for their final product. Drop in sessions are not “required” but are simply a space of support for those who need it!

What do you hope to get out of this retreat?: I simply wish to hold space for inspiration, exploration and joy.
